iPhones Cause of Freezing College NetworkWith the iPhones just being in use and many college students getting adjusted to it, it may have the reasons for problems at the University of Duke. An analysis of traffic found that iPhones flooded parts of the campus' wireless network with access requests, freezing parts of the system for 10 minutes at a time. The iPhone may be little in size but is big in power to cause a problem in a specific network. The adjustment period is going to happen as college campuses all over the nation get use to the iPhone network being part of them. The gadget can access the Internet through AT&T Inc.'s Edge network or through Wi-Fi. When a Wi-Fi hotspot is unavailable, it automatically switches to the slower network but continues to check for a Wi-Fi signal. The problem is believed to be able to be fixed and shouldn’t be a big problem for college campuses. The good thing about it is that the problem is fully aware of which makes it much easier to handle. College Universities have recommend that their students who have iPhones use them smartly. That means they could reserve the usuage of them and don’t try to purposely cause problems to the school network. However with a problem like this, it seems to be more the network problem rather than the iPhones flooding the schools networking slowing down the wireless access points and causing them to sit down. |
